LKG Admissions @ SBOA School and Junior College 2012 - 2013

I'm putting my second child in SBOA this year, and the first round of admissions are in progress.

My! the fees have gone up this year, but looking at the other schools, including Matric schools, SBOA has managed to keep the fees lower than the city average.

The admission process was smooth and quick. We finished meeting the Principal in about 30mins from the time we got there.

All that's left is, to pay the fees and start the joining formalities.

I'm glad that my kid got in, as I already have another child studying in 1st Std in SBOA. She enjoys going to school. At 50 kids a class, it is a crowd but their systematic way of doing things more than makes up for it.

Good luck to all those applying for admissions @ SBOA this year.

  1. Hi,

I am a parent looking for admission into SBOA Junior College for my kid. I was browsing thru the internet to read some reviews abt SBOA. All i see in the web is mixed reviews abt the school. Some say its very good & few say it's not upto the standard it used to be. Since you are an existing parent, pls provide your true feedback on the school. I was told that the spoken english is not emphasized & see almost of the kids talking in regional language. Howz the school overall? Please help to provide some feedback. Thanks.

    1. Hi Sudha,

I do agree that a lot of kids do talk in their mother tongue at school, But I've seen most of the teachers talk only in English to the students. If you are looking for a school that fosters English speaking then the best place would be an Anglo Indian Board School, as they have the best English standards.

However, SBOA is more knowledge oriented than language oriented as most CBSE schools are. The students have a good comfort level with English taught at school. If you are looking for great spoken skills then you may need to supplement his english learning at school with courses outside as some parents do.

My suggestion will be to talk both English and the child's mother tongue at home. It will help the kid develop lingustic mastery in both languages. Don't leave teaching wholly to any school, we need to supplement it at home as well.

SBOA will make sure that your child gets his concepts right in all subjects. Also they are very organised with the teaching methods so despite the 50 child classroom, all the kids do participate and most of them enjoy going to school.

      Hope this helps........

  5. Hi, I am from Bangalore and would be applying in SBOA for LKG for my kid this year(2012-13). I have a question regarding the school timings. I read that the school timings are from 8:40 AM to 2:40 PM for LKG. Is it correct? I personally feel that its too long a time for 3 yr to be in school.I also read there is a 'nap-time' where they allow kids to take a short nap.Is it true?Pleas do let me know...

  6. Hi,

The school starts at 9am and finishes at 2:30pm . The kids need to be in by 8:50am.

In LKG you have the option of doing only the morning session which finishes at 12 noon. The afternoon session is only for lunch and nap time.

My son refused to sleep in school, so I'm bringing him back at 12. He's quite happy with it.

Other than that they have a splash pool session once in every 2 weeks in the school pool, the classes are air-conditioned and equipped with huge flat plasma screens. They have 2 teachers per class of 50 students and 1 service staff. the teachers and the service staff help the students with lunch.

On the whole it's quite reasonable for the fees you pay.

  15. It is an academic oriented school. So marks count at every step. But scoring is easy if you adhere to what they instruct you to do. As such there is no academic pressure in the lower classes but it may be slowly stepped up as the kids reach high school. The syllabus is CBSE and the school closely follows it. Homework in the primary section may be a twice a week affair with the major part of it given only for the weekends.

The advantage of the school is the way they teach and finish portions in a scheduled way, so there is no rushing up just before the exams. The students are given adequate time to absorb and clear doubts with each topic. Tests are regular. Feedback is also timely so any corrective measures that need to be taken can be done early.

On the whole if you're kids are geared towards competitive exams and entrance exams for the future then this is a good place to put them in.

The LKG Books have arrived!

The books for all classes are generally given out during the last week of April. The kids are all waiting to take a peek into their brand new books for the coming year. The tamil books are the stateboard books and you can download them from the below link http://www.textbooksonline.tn.nic.in/ The CBSE prescribed NCERT books can be found in the below link http://ncert.nic.in/ncerts/textbook/textbook.htm SBOA uses a variety of publishers from Macmillan to Cordova for different subjects and all the books will be provided by the school. For us parents it's a mad rush to finish brown papering the notebooks and binding the textbooks! "Mummy, not the orange paper take the light brown ones, I like them better" with suggestions that sound more like ultimatums, I'm dreaming of the day that they will cover their own books! But according to my wiser father, I might as well give up as he reminds me that he covered my books all through my school years! ...

Easy way to Good English - Start Early

Amazon.in Widgets English as a first language for kids who speak their mother  tongue  (Not  English ) at home is a challenging task. The basic ground work to be done before they go to school would be To hear a lot of spoken  English This would be easy if both the parents are fluent in  English , but if you are not, then select TV shows, that are preferably cartoons, with clear diction and neutral accent for  eg .  Miffy , Noddy, etc. And sit with them and explain what is being spoken. Sick Leave Policies @ SBOA

Amazon.in Widgets Both my Dear Kids are down with a viral fever. Just the third day into a new academic year and panic strikes! Apart from catching up on all that they missed at school, the looming concern for the kids is what the teacher will say..... Mostly teachers are quite understanding if the kids and their parents follow the leave policies. If sick and absent from school for 1 or 2 days a letter from the parent should suffice. For 3 days and more, a medical certificate from a qualified doctor is required. Taking leave for purposes other than health concerns, will have to be intimated before hand. What SBOA does quarterly, is that they communicate to the parent if the attendance percentage is lower than expected and you are supposed to make it up in the coming term. This feedback keeps you on track. Falling sick happens, taking leave for miscellaneous stuff also happens, however, as parents if we stick to the leave policies, we could definitely help our kids not f...
