Free Online Learning Videos - CBSE Class 10

Everyday a new online learning site pops up. Many are paid and some are free. When searching for CBSE class 10 online learning concept videos some things to look out for are

  • Audio and video clarity
  • Understandable Language
  • 7 minutes duration or lesser
  • Teacher engagement
  • A knowledge tracker

A few of the online classes cater to specific entrance exams like IIT-JEE, NEET or NID. Brands like  Allen, Bansal, FIITJEE cater to JEE and Aakash and Brilliant for NEET. But these can be opted for once you decide your group in class 11.

For Class 10, If you have not enrolled in any of the paid coaching classes, then you can look at some free alternatives to improve your understanding of concepts.

Byjus

This is currently free for the duration of the pandemic. The advantages are
  • Sticks closely to NCERT / CBSE Curriculum
  • Animated Concept Videos
  • Enthusiastic Teachers
  • Live Classes
  • A Learning path Tracker
  • Basic Testing
  • And a gamified testing model is also available.

You can try the paid version if you need Social Studies also.

Some of the issues with Byjus are
  • Long Videos, they don't teach to the point instead give you a lot of background. If you are a relatively smart person it can get boring too soon. Their Live classes are better and to the point.
  • Most teachers are good but sometimes they do have over enthusiastic or boring teachers.

Khan Academy

This is free and it can be used as a learning management tool as well. The advantages are
  • Extensive material available
  • Quality of the video lessons are really good
  • They have CBSE learning paths that stick pretty close to the curriculum.
  • They have board prep path that has shorter videos which are to the point.
  • The Learning Path tracker is really good.
  • The test questions are geared towards deeper understanding.
  • The have content for K-12, so you can stick with it for your entire schooling.
The disadvantages are
  • Language may be a barrier for students struggling with english, they have launched a hindi version as well so that might be of some help.
  • Videos may be a bit long in the usual track, board prep videos are shorter and to the point
  • The questions may not prepare you for Class 10 board type answers.
  • Social studies not available

Century Learning

This is free for the duration of school closures for COVID.
  • This is a really good platform for strong concept understanding.
  • The outstanding feature is their testing methodology.
  • You can take away a very clear and deep understanding of a concept and build on it step by step.

It may not be aligned to CBSE curriculum but it is very good for concept building. Give the free version a shot and you will see how different this is from the rest.

You have to see a few videos in each to figure out which style suits you the best. Then stick to it. The idea should be to get the maximum understanding from minimum material in the least amount of time. So choose wisely.

SBOA School Bus and Transport alternatives

The School bus facility at SBOA School and Junior College is for students of class LKG to class 5. The fee for the bus ranges from Rs.1800 to Rs.2300 per term depending on the distance travelled. The school bus picks up students from a point on the route closest to the students residence and drops them back at the same point. If the parent is not around to receive the child, the child is taken back to the school and the parents have to arrange to collect their wards from the school. The other option available is to send them via private vans. This is definitely more convenient as the pick up and drop are usually at your doorstep or closer than the school bus drop point and they usually wait for a few extra Min's. The biggest drawback is that all the operators use Mahindra vans(The green boxy ones) and they are not very comfortable. Swaraj Mazda or even a tempo traveller would be nice, but I guess only if a big group of parents go out of their way to find one, the situat...

To Market, To Market to buy a Great Bag

Whoever thought Bag shopping would become such a big event! I just discovered that my 3 year old has preferences in the style of bag she wants to take to school ! all this without any peer influence as of yet! God help me when that happens too! Jan sport was my choice of bag, but the cost factor made me look at other options too, as you might have already guessed, nothing matched up! Then Lo and Behold, we did find the perfect first school bag at Reebok, Besant Nagar , at a cool price of Rs.360 ( MRP Rs.599 with a 40% discount) a Red and Black one that fit her like magic! Harry potter isn't the only one who is school supplies shopping with wonder in his eyes! With that put behind us, now it's on to Lunch box, water bottle , lunch bag, pencil box, hair accessories, etc, etc. If any of you had luck with these, let me know...... Transition to Full Day Of School

Most transitions are painful, but this one is acute. Especially if the kid is 3 years old! Half a day of school is fun as they come back home to have lunch and sleep, doing the very same things in school is a diffrent ball game. However there is hope.......... If you stick to the routine and tide over the first 2 weeks they actually start loving to go to school again. Here are some pointers to make this transition easier Set a routine for everything regarding the kid and the school days. Make the mornings before school fun. Keep the kids updated on what to expect for the day, including snacks and lunch that you have packed. Wake up early and try not to rush through the morning. Don't hurry the kid through his breakfast or toilet/bath time. Before he leaves, tell him about the fun things he can do when he gets back in the evening. Stick to the schedule and keep sending him to school, he's bound to fuss for the first few days. Keep encouraging them to interact with their "fr...
